History About Us

Our family recieved our first guinea pig about six years ago. She was so small. She fit in the palm of my hand. We named her Crackers. It was love at first site !!!!

So , how does having a guinea pig as a pet lead into a rescue??

Good Question -- Answer - My friends !!!  ( No - names -Angie  ) .

She helped me get the ball rolling. Being big into rescue herself , she encouraged and helped me get started.  We are very glad she did !!!!

Our first rescue was our most memorable . Her name was Blackie. She was ,of course ,black in color and had short, silkie hair. She was already 6 years of age. She was just living too long for her owners I guess. I contacted the Humane Society she was located at and filled out all the forms to becoming a rescue for them. When we were approved ,we picked her up and took her HOME.  Her nails were so long she couldn't walk . She was quite thin as well.    But in spite of all this , she was the sweetest , most loving , gentle and socialable piggy we have ever had the pleasure knowing ( And we have had quite a few over the years). Everyone who came into our home wanted to pet her. My Mother who is afraid of them - would hold Blackie. Blackie would always fall asleep on her chest.  The one things she would do that I thought was so neat . She would make a nest with her hay then eat it from the inside out. It was so cute. Then she would go back in her box that looked like a tent and move the box around her cage with her. We nicknamed her Turtle.  Well Blackie did very well for about 7 months. Then she quietly passed away.                       She is still missed !!!!!                                            

We only take in a few piggies at a time . Our house is small , money is tight but we are all doing what we can .
